Exclamation Asus P4C800-E Deluxe and Mandrake and Intel ICH5R and RAID 0 and 74 GB Raptors

Can't install Mandrake on my RAIDed 74 GB Raptors using Intel ICH5R RAID controller (RAID0), Mandrake states it's corrupted.

¡ ¡ HELP ! ! … ¿ ¿ ANYONE? ?

- Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
- 2 * 74GB Raptors (RAID 0) using Intel ICH5R RAID controller

Mandrake 10 + Edition Workstation states that my partition is corrupted. It views the drive as 2 separate drives, instead as 1 RAID'ed entity. Shows 1st drive with some partitions (created with PartitionTragic... woops, meant PartitionMagic 8.0.. for dual boot for Windows XP), but it doesn't recognized the created Linux partition or the WinXP NTFS partition.

I think it has to do with Mandrake not being able to recognize the Intel ICH5R RAID controller. I am unable to find any drivers for this controller for this motherboard using Linux, only Windowz drivers. Finding a driver, I believe, is the solution. :-P

Closest thing to a Linux drive I found was 'Adaptec* ICH5-R/S Serial ATA RAID Drivers' at Intel's site.
Unable to put the URL due to the 'must have 5 points' rule, or something like that thingy magigy :-P

I haven't tried this yet, but I think it's my next resort.

Perhaps I should've gone with the Promise RAID controller, right from the get go. :-P

¡ ¡ HELP ! ! … ¿ ¿ ANYONE? ?

There is no driver for the RAID component of the Intel ICH5. Blame Intel, not enogh specs for a hardware ATA raid driver. If this isn't a dual boot situation you can delete the Raid array and just use Linux Software Raid, which is probably quite faster then these cheapo 1 chip near software RAID setups anyway.

Not sure if this helps, but worth a shot maybe?

I got this from http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-013548.htm .

For customers using Linux* who are interested in using RAID Technology on Intel® ICH5R and ICH6R chipsets, a Linux kernel 2.4 patch is available. The driver works in conjunction with the Intel® RAID Option ROM distributed with ICH5R/ICH6R chipsets. It understands RAID volumes created with the option ROM or within Windows*, and allows booting of Linux to these volumes. It is particularly useful when there is a need for compatibility with other operating systems using those RAID volumes.

This driver and documentation is available at http://iswraid.sourceforge.net/ † or http://sourceforge.net/projects/iswraid †.

Please note that this driver does not contain all of the functionality provided by Intel® Application Accelerator; please read the documentation carefully to determine if it will meet your needs. Also note that this patch supports 2.4 kernels only at this time.

The information contained on this page is only mentioned here as a courtesy by Intel as an alternative proposal for interested parties. Because Linux distribution vendors can incorporate the iswraid driver as they see appropriate, Intel cannot be responsible in any way for the content or operation of these drivers and does not provide any warranty or guarantee of any kind with respect to their usability, suitability or performance for any application. Please contact your Linux distribution vendor directly with questions or for more information. You should contact your Linux distribution vendor for support.

Cheers
