sendmail configuration in redhat 9

Dear all,

I am new to redhat 9. I have a problem with sendmail configuration in redhat 9.0. I hope someone can help me to solve it.

My dns setting

domain name server: ns1.domain1.com
ns2.domain1.com

domain1.com IN MX 1 mail.domain1.com

here my mail server is the same as name server 1, which means mail.domain1.com (ip address) is the same as (ip address) of ns1.domain1.com

and i have other domain name in my server which has a record in ns1.domain1.com

I call it as domain2.com.

the above is my dns setting.

problems come out when i send mail to this 2 domain, it can not find the domain.

this can be expressed as

send mail to user1@domain1.com (failed)
user1@ns1.domain1.com (success)

user2@domain2.com (failed)
user2@ns1.domain2.com (success)

please help to slove the problem. how to change the sendmail setting or my dns setting. so that i do not need to add ns1 in the email address.

thanks

It's simple. Since your sendmail recognizes itself as ns1.dmain.com it is accepting mails. To make it recognize other domains just add it to /etc/mail/local-host-names file. Make sure that local-host-names is supported in sendmail.mc file.#

For eg: Add domain.com to /etc/mail/local-host-names

Make sure that domain.com has appropriate MX records.

You should read the excellent docs on sendmail.org
