Mozilla 1.6 Install

I did a fresh Mandrake Install and I have read in the mozilla site that I am not supposed to install mozilla over an older version (which is 1.4 by default in Mandrake 9.2). I want to know what to do to uninstall it completely and also how to install the new version. (Mozilla 1.6)
Thanks in advance!!!

To remove version 1.4 I'd go to kde menu/configuration/packaging/remove software. In there, in the search box type mozilla and check the packages you want to uinstall. After that, read the README or INSTALL file in the mozilla 1.6 installation file to install.

When you install Mozilla 1.6 put it in /usr/lib ( check and see if if 1.4 resides there, I am using beta 10 now, so the folder might be different ) ... If you have been using Mozilla for mail save your " default " folder ( it has your mail, bookmarks ) in it... It is located in your /home/yourname/.mozilla ... .mozilla is a hidden file...

I'm running xandros 2.0. I uninstalled mozilla from "xandros networks"

then ran instructions in readme of downloaded mozilla 1.6

i try and run the installer but get:

jack:/home/jack/Downloads/Linux/mozilla-installer# ./mozilla-installer
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
jack:/home/jack/Downloads/Linux/mozilla-installer#

Any help much appreciated.

Hi, Delphinusnz, are you sure you are running the installation script from an X server?. You should first start Gnome, or KDE, or whatever...

Yeah i'm in X. either running it from a cosole (from KDE) or double clicking it gives me the same error. I had mandrake 9.1 on this pc 1 week ago and did exactly the same thing and it worked fine...

Maybe a library problem. Check for GTK. As far as I know, you have it if you have GNOME or GIMP.

From another forum, i got this answer and it works, posting here to help people with the same problem.

Quote:
Running the mozilla installer creates/opens a window. You are running this installer as root, but the session is under the normal user: jack. Everytime you log in as a jack, only that user has the privilege to create windows in the session, not even root (su). So, you, as jack, need to give this privilege to root first, and then root will be able to run the installer without errors. So, in a console, as jack, type:
xhost +local:root

This will give the privilege to root to create windows in this session. Now that this is done, do what you intended to to: su to root and install mozilla.
I found you do the xhost command BEFORE su ing to root
