Geforce woes
Ookay...When I first started Linux my gix card (Albatron Ti4200 something (GeForce4), and yes the company is so vague that to this day I don't know the exact model) worked...I had a feeling it wasn't working quite correctly but it was working. For some reason, tit's simply stopped doing anything that uses opengl or 3d hardware acceleration. The program just won't run. I've looked on nVidia's website for the drivers but I couldn't figure out which ones to download, so I downloaded the two that were available and neither of them would compile. Albatron didn't have anything for Linux at all.
The problem I was having before was that opengl/hardware accelerated apps didn't run worth dick. I maybe got 1.5 fps out of them, tops. I attributed that to me using the packaged drivers that came with RH9, but it may also be my bios settings...I've had to slow down my system quite a bit because I don't have proper cooling in it and it kept shutting itself down. Can anyone point me to the right drivers/tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've also considered converting to Debian or Mandrake, would that help at all?
