Mouse pointer

I changed my old Trident 9000i graphic card to an S3 Trio 3D/2x PCI one, and now my mouse pointer turned into a white square of size 15x15 mm and no border under Linux.
Can anyone tell me how could I have Linux to
- give me back my old, comfortable mouse pointer, or
- give that square an other color less commonly used on web pages (i.e. mouse pointers of white color and having no borders tend to become invisible on large white surfaces).

Thanks in advance!

P.S.
The first solution should be preferred.

Mouse pointer

Where can I set 'forced sw_cursor' in Linux?
That can solve my problem!
(Searching the web I found a forum archive where someone described the same problem with that graphic card, and mentioned that he solved the problem by a 'forced sw_cursor'. Unfortunately he did not go into more details)

You need to add - Option "SWCursor" "yes" to the pointer section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4).

Mouse pointer

I do not have any "/etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) files.
So I gave it a try with the "/etc/XF86Config" file.
Then it took me some hours to have XServer to start again...
(You know things are a bit rough in Linux for a Newbie)
I tried the following syntaxes:

- Option "SWCursor" "yes"
Option "SWCursor" "yes"
SWCursor "yes"

None of the above syntaxes worked but each made my XServer inoperable.

So I still have a 1.5x1.5cm white square as a mouse pointer. :-(

I had the same problem, and this fixed it.

Open the file /etc/X11/XF86Config, Insert the option "sw_cursor" as follows:

Section "Device"
BoardName "AutoDetected"
Driver "trident"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Option "sw_cursor"
VendorName "AutoDetected"
