Simple question: Has anyone been able to boot Slack 9.1 Instal. CD with HID USB k&m?
Hi everyone
I am trying hard to find out some clues about the probs I am experiencing. I have already posted a number of threads here and on various forums and NG. I would really like to stick with Slack, if only I could get it going.
I would be grateful to see if anyone been able to boot Slackware 9.1 installation CD with HID USB keyboard & mouse?
In my case, the kernel hangs and I am not able to carry on. CD boot fien with ps/2 k&m.
I have downloaded the CD twice from different sources and burn 3 CDs of the disk 1.
If you have the CD and have a USB k&m, please just boot up and let me know.
there might be a bug. When I installed on my laptop I had to manually load the modules using my laptop keyboard in order to get my usb keyboard going (press alt-F2 to get to a prompt). In fact I had to manually load the modules to get any of the usb devices working during intallation. If you don't have two kbd's like me, this of course doesn't help you.
when i install i cant have my usb speakers or mouse connected or it will lock up... for me its been like that since slack9.0 ... dont know what the problem is so i just disconnect them and install reconnect them and then load the drivers i need, but i still refuse to use plug and pray ... using pnp all i have to do is reconnect them and setup alsa.
That is the problem. Why is it that it is not working for me?
I can't work it out. I have since cleaned up my HD to attempt a fresh install. I just tried booting Slack 9.1 CD four times and each time it hangs after:
usbkbd.c: USB HID Boot Protocol keyboard driver
usb.c: registered new driver hiddev
usb.c: registered new driver hid
I have a PackardBell Comp and PackardBell keyboard and mouse.
are we talking about booting or installing? Once installed, slack9.1 has no problems with booting with USB devices attached, but the installation was a different story for me. It seemed to detect the USB devices and loaded the modules (the power on the devices went on) but apparently immediately unloaded the modules (the power went down on all USB devices). I had to manually load the modules again to use my USB keyboard for installation (I have tow keyboards; one internal of the laptop and an external one).
the documentation on the 9.1. CD does say to type usb.i at the boot prompt to enable USB support. I don't see any usb.i on the disk, but it might be worth a shot.
Just to narrow down things, what happens when you boot w/o usb k&m and then plug them in? Does that work? Also, have you tried using just either USB kbd or mouse but not both? Maybe it's one of them that's causing the trouble.
Support for USB keyboards is now integrated into the installer. If USB device detection causes problems (it shouldn't), it may be skipped by passing the kernel a "nousb" flag at boot. In the event that the keyboard doesn't work right away when the install CD is booted, wait. It will boot automatically after two minutes without a keypress, and then the kernel should find your keyboard.
How do I pass 'nosub' to kernel?
Do I just type 'nousb'?
