scrollback buffer?

simple question i can't find an answer to: how do you change the number of lines the console will scroll back? i can change it in aterm, but not in the regular, non-X console. something in .bashrc or .bash_profile, maybe?

Take a look at this - it explains it quite well:

I hadn't really thought about it. I just write a quick script and I can't see any difference using a lot of text or only line numbers - I get 180 lines each time:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

num=500
while [ $num -gt 1 ];do
# Just line numbers
echo $num
# Use more memory
#echo $num abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
num=$(($num-1))
done
echo -n "1 - "

huh, that's kind of strange. i guess each line number is "hard coded" at a certain amount of memory no matter how much text is on the line.

so i guess my estimate of 200 was about 20 line over , but at least i know now that's "normal." thx.
