Greetz to all you Archer Gents... Some qustions from a slacker

Hi Forum

This is my first post in Arch Linux forum...

Which means that i am sub-newbie in Arch Matters...

I have some questions... :

I have been watching arch Forums, as well as Arch Wiki,

and AFAIK, Arch is very much alike slackware, with two small differences :

1.)Arch starts with a tiny system that is expanded, while Slackware starts with a complete system;

i.e. Arch is more ( although not restricted to.. ) server oriented, while Slackware is more desktop oriented.

2.)Arch has a package dependency handler called pacman.

My questions are :

Why is pacman more sane than yum, or apt-get...?
How do i know it will not create some sort of dependency hell ? some mega-entanglement in libs/apps...?

The equivalent for Slackbuilds in "Archese" parlance is AUR... a build system from source... can pacman be mutually compatible with AUR...?

How do I know that something built and installed with AUR will not break the "ties" created by pacman...?

Dependency handling in AUR build system is handled manually, like in Slackware, right...?

Can I create packages in Arch, the same way I do it in Slackware...?

i.e. what is the equivalent for src2pkg, and makepkg in Arch...?

What is the ABS...?

I think there is nothing alike in Slackware, is it...?

BRGDS

Alex

EDIT:

Is Chakra to Arch, the same as Ubuntu is for Debian... ?
i.e. a Bloated, and crippled Arch ?...

Hi Archerz

So, I installed Arch 2009.8 in an external USB disk; it IS FAAST like hell booting.

Since i do not have wired connection, I downloaded a snapshot of [Community], [core] and [extra], and I will dump this in my /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ in the Arch install.

Two questions though:

Sometimes when i am correcting something in CLI in Arch, and i reach the beginning of what I am typing, and also when i poweroff, a stupid and annoying beep pops up... what must i do to stop this... ?

How do I specify a display mode of 360 in console ? ( 1280x800x8 ) setting vga=... in my kernel line in menu.lst gave no result...

At boot it tells me that this resolution is not supported and asks me to select display mode among those listed... yet if I select 360 ( or is it 361...?? ) the boot proceeds normally with this "resolution"... what must i do to enable this by default ?

What are the default groups i should add <user> to to have audio, mount dvds/cds, and have network ? in Slackware this is a default option, but not in Arch...

BRGDS
