Hi Everyone!
LQ Community,
Thought it was about time I participated. I run a business and made the switch to Linux about one year ago, and have been 99.9% Ubuntu Linux since February 2009.
I say 99.9% because I have a Lexmark printer on the WLAN ... so I have a Windows box running headless on VirtualBox OSE that prints files for me (make sure you use a "Bridged Adapter" or the print drivers will crash during installation). I use the PDF printer and mount my PDF directory to a network share and the Windows system prints them out. Next printer will be Linux friendly for sure.
Biggest challenge is just the "newness" of everything. Having to relearn things. Best feature the new lease of life I got from my desktop. It's a Dell P4 3.2GHz from November 2004, and with a new hard drive, a touch of memory, and Ubuntu 8.0.4 LTS it is smoking!! I can't believe how fast it is!
I run several VMs on it using VirtualBox - appliances that perform particular business functions for me and everything works extremely well. I even converted my wife's laptop to Ubuntu 8.10 and the complaining stopped after a few weeks!!
That's it for me. I hope I can begin to contribute.
