backup freeBSD server

I was asked if I could do a backup, or a clone, of several FreeBSD servers.

They are about six years old, so I don't know the actual version. The system runs on an ASUS MB, with a 3ware RAID controller, using 3 Drives. Don't know the raid level...

Not being fluent in linux, just able to get around and cope with what is there, I am not certain how to proceed in the most logical manner.

It would probably be acceptable, to just create a clone/backup onto a single hard drive, rather than being concerned with a clone of the raid configuration.

Any suggestions or recommends as to the proper direction, sort of running away :-) would be appreciated.

Thanks.

John

I suppose that you know that FreeBSD is not Linux. There's a BSD section here on LQ as well.

A quick Google search turned up this.

(Mod request: Move this thread to *nix section so that this question can get the exposure that it deserves.)

jbrush,

I highly recommend that you purchase "Backup and recovery" by W Curtis Preston. Since it covers everything you need to know about backing up any system not just FreeBSD. I have read halfway through this book and it is awesome.

No, I was misled. Sorry, I will take it elsewhere.

Thanks,
