Check out http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ to get a good idea of compatible wireless cards.

I picked up several Level-1 PCMCIA wireless cards from NewEgg a while ago that had the Atheros chipset, this card has worked GREAT for me in an older Dell C800 and Toshiba Satellite laptop.

DO NOT get any wireless adapter that uses a Broadcom chipset. Nothing but problems under Linux in my experience.

How do I know the card does not use Atheros chiset? I heard lot of people say Atheros chip is well support but the chipset varies on the brand and model.

Dlink DWL-G630.

Uses a Ralink driver that you need to compile, but on my FC5 i now have Wireless, WEP capability, and more useful to me WPA (both PSK and the other AES variant). The card retails at about £15 over in the UK, and ive no idea if its possible to get hold of Stateside or in Canada, but worth a look if you want something simple and powerful and can get hold of one.

I voted 3com not from experience owning any of the above devices, but more from the fact that I've owned many 3com devices and never had a single issue in linux. Though I've had little hassle with realtek too, just haven't used them as much.

You may want to check with your linux distro first

I'm running a Belkin wireless card and I'm using Xandros Business Edition 4.01 but you may want to go to the Linux website that should have a list of compatible hardware as it often depends on which version or which distro you are using. What might work with Redhat version X may not work with Redhat Version X.2 or SuSE 8.2 or Xandros 4.01 E.G. To find out go to Xandros website and look for the hardware list that will list hardware that others have used with this particular distro. The hardware list will list several makes, models and say if they work, don't work or no problems or list whatever problems they might have had.

I've had good luck with a Netgear WG511 card. I had to use Ndiswrapper to get it to work, but it has been working flawlessly on my Debian 4.0 laptop.

How about 3COM 3CRPAG175-AP 11a/b/g Wireless PC Card with XJACK Antenna, Region APR(Asia Pacific) it does look like 3CRPAG175 but I have no idea why there is a region matter invole here. The price of this is much lower than 3CRPAG175. Has anyone tried this ?

Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] under Fedora Core 6. Using fwcutter with no problems. Very stable connections. Connects to home network on startup every time and stays connected all day. Plus I can turn it on and off at will.
