Kde

How can I install KDE desktop environment on my computer? I have a bunch of KDE applications that are programming oriented, but how do I get the actual desktop?

To install KDE for ubuntu do the following:

Open up a console in your gnome session:

type: sudo aptitude update

then type: sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

this will install KDE with all the bling bling around it.

if you want a lightweigth version and want to install your own bling bling on it:

type: sudo aptitude install kde-core

Then during the install process it'll ask you what to default KDM or GDM.

This depends on what you think you'll use most, if you think you'll be using Gnome more, choose GDM, if you think you'll use KDE more, choose KDM.

Then just logout and start a KDE session.. All should work.

I believe the command is sudo aptitute kde

Could be wrong though. If you have Synaptic Package Manager, you could always just find "KDE" and install the desktop environment.

I installed KDE, and it now boots as Kubuntu, but only the application icons are KDE, the tool bar isn't.

See: http://www.geocities.com/whitehat4u/desk.png

The actual bar is still gnome. How do I change that?

Make sure you choose the KDE session from the login screen, in the menu

You haven't actually logged into KDE.

See instructions (with screenshots) here:
