No C# compiler found

I am trying to install f-spot.
My starting point is the CD which came with this months Linux Format.
Having unzipped and untarred the package I attempt to ./configure. After several lines indicating activity it stops with;
Configure : error: No C# compiler found.
Question; Have I done something stupid (probable) or do I need to obtain a C# compiler?. If so from where?
Please help
Cliff

sudo aptitude install build-essential will installed typical compilers and stuff. I think C# for .NET stuff you have to install mono-devel or pnet

Thanks forthat.
I had already built the dep tree and checked that intltool and libtool were the latest version.
I tried what you suggested but I still get the response;
No C# compiler found.
I think I need more information on your suggestion re mono-devel or pnet.

No C+ compiler found

Your C+ compiler is in gcc and g++. Load these applications with Synaptic and you will be all set. You may also have to load make. I had the same problem trying to load Ruby.

I believe what you're looking for is the mono-mcs package from the Ubuntu repository. Synaptic can install it.

Thanks fot the input,
I first checked and found that gcc, g++ and make are already installed.
I located and installed mono-mcs.
I also went back over the dependencies to make sure i have the latest version.
Then, in high hopes I ran ./configure again ----
Same result. No C# compiler found.
Do I perhaps have a path problem?
