sound breaks in KDE

Hi again,

I've just started playing around with KDE as my GUI, and I've discovered that the sound stops working every time I log into kdm, or I log in from the screensaver, or my laptop wakes from sleep, and I have to run

# alsactl restore

to get it working again. I'm sure I'm missing something very basic in the configuration, but has anyone else dealt with this on Slackware?

after configuring your sound using alsaconf, did you run this command?

alsactl store

yep, I've got sound configured so that it runs just fine on any of the other GUIs, but I guess there's something with artsd that breaks alsa on my system so I have to enter alsactl restore to get the sound up and running.
