P.S im more than happy to pay for SLED
but i dont know how the Novell Licencing works
1 year licencing is in place what happens at the end of that year?

With SLED 10 you pay for support on the product and not the product itself. So you'll be paying for a year's support and after that you can renew it if u see fit.

But why would u want to pay for support if u can get it here?

SLED has potential

Yup, I purchased a 3 yr support ).

I like SLED 10, and am not sure if / when they will release a . release, and I can't really fully say the differences between SLED 10 and openSuSE 10.1 because oSuSE I run KDE and SLED 10 I run GNOME.

I had Open.SuSE 10.1 installed untill Friday last week.
I recently acquired a copy of SuSE 10 Enterprise edition off the cover of a Magazine this month here in AUstralia and it is quite slick..
I have had some problems getting respo's to work using the Enterprise edition though. It also does not come with as much software pre-installed as the 10.1 version.

One thing i have noticed about SLED 10 is that it seems to manage my RAM better. I had problems in 10.1 where it would allocated nearly all of my 1GB ram (bar around 15.MB) to disk cache...
SLED 10 only pushes about about 400MB to cache and leaves me with around 500MB of physical RAM to use myself - so i have noticed a significant performance increase just loading applications etc..

What Mag? i want a good linux mag in Australia

Actually, it was just on Australian Personsal Computer - APC Magazine - $9.95 Bargain...
They usually include one full linux distro every month..
This month its SuSE Enterprise 10 ;P

Linux format is also a good magazine - i think it costs around $18 though for the current month.

i have had problems with adding repositories in order to install extra apps i require in SLED though.
I have followed the steps on Jems page but still cannot seem to install a lot of stuff. Seems it cannot resolve all the dependencies of particular programs..
Anyone else been able to sucessfully add 10.1 repo's to sled 10.0 ?

actually have fixed problems instlalling mplayer now - had to disable the suse 10 repository that came with SLED and add in the Open Suse 10.1 repo's...
Now i seem to be able to finish the install

WOW i stopped buying APC couples ago because they started adding absolute rubbish

and i didnt use windows any more

I bought a couple Linux World
but $19 is a little steep to buy every month
but it always has good Articles and HowTos

and does everyone knew how to get it smaller use of physical RAM?

im not 100% sure but i know when intalling OpenSuse 10.1 - in the installation notes (very last thing you see before the reboot or logon prompt) it does actually mention something you can change to alter the amount pushed to disk cache - *i think*

It could be in /proc/sys/vm

I think
echo 90 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

will help
the higher (upto 100) Swappiness is set the quicker your unused info in ram will be sent to the Swap drive

Mines set to 10 since i like using all my 2GB on a responsive system i dont use memory demanding programs though.

I understand, but do you think it will help? i have 512 mb RAM and it allways is full up to 95%.i think SuSE loads the part of filesystem into memory.
