Nothing too complicated here, but I just discovered that it's possible to keep on top of updates via RSS from the console
The setup I have watches for official Slackware updates (including SBo) as well as updates from
alienBOB's repo (but only for Chromium, since that's all I have installed). I'm using
newsbeuter (available on SBo) with the following config;
~/.newsbeuter/urls
Code:
https://slackbuilds.org/rss/ChangeLog.rss
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/ChangeLog.rss
http://mirrors.slackware.com/feeds/slackware-14.2.rss
~/.newsbeuter/config
Code:
browser /usr/bin/firefox
auto-reload yes
suppress-first-reload yes
reload-time 120
notify-screen yes
notify-xterm yes
notify-beep yes
# alienBOB: only show articles that are about chromium releases
ignore-article "http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/ChangeLog.rss" "content !~ \".*chromium:.*\""
Works well, and I like the fact that I can filter for just the things I want. The
newsbeuter docs are quite good.
