just bought parts for a new computer.
I start up the computer and select amd64 install and the language choices pop up, but the mouse and keyboard stop responding.
I even tried using a ps2 keyboard.
the motherboard is an msi tomahawk b350
using jessie 8.8 net install image.
If you search on the internet for debian install keyboard hangs, the results provide links to various solutions, including the changing of BIOS settings.
advice says enable legacy usb support, but its already enabled.
tried disabling legacy usb support, no change.
re-enabled usb legacy, tried disabling xhci hand off. no change.
tried unplugging and re-plugging the keyboard. no change
tried different usb slots. no change.
tried different iso media. no change.
I did manage to install i386 architecture but I don't know how that helps me if at all.
I can suggest a few things although in searching the PS/2 port seemed to work in all cases. PS/2 is not typically hot plugable. Did you perform a cold boot after connecting the PS/2 keyboard/mouse?
Make sure the motherboard has the latest and greatest BIOS version installed.
I don't know if it makes a difference in your case but make sure the keyboard/mouse are connected to USB 2 ports.
Its possible that debian 64 does not have the latest and greatest support for the motherboard. You might want to try Fedora 25 or Mint 18.
following hydrurga's link I selected amd64 and pressed 'e' key as tab key didn't seem to do anything, I added iommu=soft to the end of a line and pressed "ctrl + x" to execute.
that seemed to fix the problem.
after going through the installation and restarting the computer without installation media I got a message "please restart computer and select bootable drive or insert installation media and press enter"
so either I messed something up setting up the hard drive this time or that solution caused a different problem.
reinstalled again
this time the e key didn't bring up the command line but the tab key did, weird.
this time I got the partitioning right and every thing seems to be working properly
thanks for the help
