Can not get flash drive to format to fat 32


I can not get Gparted to format a flash drive to fat 32 in order to install redobackup.

Quote:

mkfs.fat -F32 -v -I -n " " /dev/sdc1 00:00:00 ( ERROR )

mkfs.fat 3.0.28 (2015-05-16)

What's the drive's capacity? As I recall, there's an upper size limit for the FAT32 format. Memory is telling me that it's just 4 GB, and it's difficult to find a flash drive that small any more.

You can create and format a FAT32 partition greater than 4GB no prob. But you can not store a single file >4GB. That is the limitation of the FAT32 filesystem.

Can you post output of:

Microsoft will not let you create/format a FAT32 partition >32GB but the actual limit is 2TB with 512k sectors.

Make sure that sdc1 is not mounted and that nothing else is accessing the drive.

I was able to get it formatted, but I had to do a full wipe of the drive instead of a short wipe.
