or even more elegantly

$ >file

I probably misread your question. I thought you wanted to make a file.

What do you mean by "do make file"?

Which version of Ubuntu are you running?

Please provide the command you are running and the terminal output that occurs when you try to do whatever it is you are trying to do, being sure to enclose it in "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the compose post window. If the output is voluminous, it is likely necessary only to include the portion with the error messages.
