Kernel Upgrade: linux-firmware-image, linux-image-dbg, ,linux-libc-dev

What do i do with these packages created at considerable cost of system resources and time during a kernel compilation. I have followed @m_yates' tutorial in the Sticky here, which btw IMHO, is the best there is out there, and has worked without any errors for me every time.
This question has been on my mind ever since i compiled a new kernel from source for the first time, but since everything seems to work just as well with installing just the linux-image and linux-headers packages as given in the tutorial i did not pursue it. Recently upgraded to longterm kernel 4.1.13 and realized the question still nags at me.
How essential are these packages, do i install them, will there be any benefits from doing so or will i complicate and mess up things unnecessarily. Please, i humbly request a more informative reply than "if it ain't don't fix it".

Instead of being an improvement on kernel 4.1.12 longterm kernel 4.1.13 is flawed. It raises the hard disk temperature by 5-7C and the CPU core temps. by the same amount even when idling. I am glad i kept the previous version. Will flush this abomination asap and for it's worth, i strongly advise against upgrading to it.

Done, phew. Churning out new kernel versions seems to be just a vain intellectual exercise for these developer guys now..
Code:
:~# rm -rf /lib/modules/4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64
:~# rm -f /boot/vmlinuz-4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64*
:~# rm -f /boot/initrd.img-4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64*
:~# rm -f /boot/config-4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64*
:~# rm -f /boot/System.map-4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64*
:~# update-grub
Generating grub configuration file ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-4.1.12-3.16.0-4-amd64
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-4.1.12-3.16.0-4-amd64
Found LMDE 2 Betsy (2) on /dev/sda2
done
:~# ls /var/lib/initramfs-tools
4.1.12-3.16.0-4-amd64 4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64
:~# rm -f /var/lib/initramfs-tools/4.1.13-3.16.0-4-amd64
:~# update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.1.12-3.16.0-4-amd64
:~#
Now that i've been boorish enough to criticize 4.1.13 without the slightest inkling of what goes into a linux kernel, it is only fair that i relate how awesome my experience of kernel 4.1.12 is. The cpu core temperatures never go above 70C and the hdd temp. never above 42C however resource intensive the processes i am running. It boots in under 40 seconds with several applications running at startup including Conky and always without errors. I cannot express how grateful i am for this amazing OS to it's creators and to the altruistic, conscientious and vibrant community that evolved around it.
