Ubuntu slowing down after upgrades within 12.04; what to do (firefox)

my feeling is the ubuntu is slowing down from update to update. especially firefox and video within it seems to become slower. Is it an effect observed by diverse persons here? perhaps should I change few setups in firefox for stopping all video starting at anytime? Is there any methodology to increase the speed of a system anywhere (step by step instruction) ? I will desinstall all CRON and others which I dont need. Any step by step instruction is welcome (referenz to any existing internet page)
