On board sound broken after motherboard upgrade to M5A 78L-M USB3

Hi,
I upgraded my motherboard (running Debian 7.0) and can't get sound from the new board. I have a logitech headset which works fine using its usb wifi connector. pulseaudio looks like things should be playing, the indicators move as expected, but no matter what I connect where I can get no sound from on board. Also no input from the microphone on the board (again usb logitech is OK.

I'm not certain what info might help to diagnose the problem.

Have you gone into the mixer to make sure that sound isnt muted?

if I was you I would check my /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf or alsa.conf see if something has been left behind. like a different sound card it is forcing to use.

then I would delete my /var/lib/alsa/asound.state then I would delete my home/~/.pulse or .config/pulse folder.
reboot and start from there alsa will generate a new asound.state and then pulseaudio will read it create a new pulse folder with it's setup.

then hopefully your desktop will read it also.
