mouse clicks lost

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 (in the forms of Kubuntu and Mint 16) I'm having a problem with the mouse.

Frequently when I click on an item outside of the window in current use the first click is lost. It does not matter whether the delay is very short or several seconds, a second click is needed to change the focus. It does not happen every time. The cursor moves normally, buttons are highlighted normally, tooltips appear on cue, but things are not selected on the first click.

This happens with different mice, with and without a KVM switch.
No drop-down menus or other pop-ups are visible.
/var/log/syslog shows nothing when it happens.

Any clues? Where do I look?

Jim

The dmseg cmd might provide some answers. That cmd helped me to diagnose my HDD on it's way out--
Does the mouse show with using the lsusb cmd?

What mouse do you have and is it wired or wireless?

Sometimes when one is having hardware issue's or performance problems installing a higher version of the kernel may help. It could be a driver issue but I am not sure.

If there are known problems with 'mouse' or keyboard it would be listed in the release notes pertaining to your distribution.
