According to the article, the free Windows VM will only run for 90 days. After it quits running, you won't be able to access any data in it.

Yea, always a catch! Pretty useless overall.

But it made me grin - I only looked at the article because I have no M$ machines and every once in a while I think it would be interesting to run one in a VM just to see how the other side lives. So when I saw free version to run in a VM I took a look, but was happy to find there was so little interest in it that even no-cost was too expensive to look at. Then I saw 90 day expiration and realized I would probably still have to authenticate... click to next article...

90 days of Windows is 89 days 23 hours and 59 seconds too long.
Think it was when trial versions of 7 were released, I seem to remember reading some way to extend that 90 days (or whatever).

I think it was "slmgr rearm" or something similar. I have an image on an old boxtop that I haven't fired up in quite a while.
