Angry Kernel Panic :VFS :Unable to mount root fs on 00:00

I am new to Redhat 9.0
I have installed Red hat 9.0 some days ago
After installation I have done only two tasks
a) I have permanently mounted my NTFS drives
b)I have configured my network card and changed its MAC Address

Now i have booted Redhat but its not working properly and giving the following message

"
VFS : Cannot open root devices "LABEL=/1" or 00:00
Please append a correct "root="boot option
Kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 00:00
"

After this message Redhat stops booting

Please HELP me out
Thanx

You need to boot with a ide boot disk and fix your mbr either by fixing the lilo config and running lilo or fixing grub.

hi there,
boot from the redhat 9 first cd.
after that type "linux rescue" there.
then it will ask for "language option" and "keyboard type".
make it "english" and "us type" respectively.
....
then it will ask for mounting the image in /mnt/sysimge.......let it do this.
you can skip setting "network configuration" ( which too come during this procedure"

now you will see the konsole........type there
#chroot /mnt/sysimage
#grub-install /dev/hdx

note: x could be a,b,c or d .
this whole procedure will place your "grub" into mbr.
now reboot the system after removing the cd from the cd-rom.

regards
