Theres d4X (downloader for X) http://freshmeat.net/releases/99346/ (should be a link to it's homepage there) that's GUI and there a quite few others, but this is often the most talked about and used, or if you wanna go console theres always the trusty 'wget'
try nt or ProzGUI ( prozilla gui version).
Both of them are fast and stable, have quite a lot of functionality, can resume broken download, lookup for mirrors for parallel downloads etc
Yeh i'm currently using ProzGui too cause i personally haven't got D4X installed hehe (couldn't be bothered sorting out dependecies) but ProzGUi installed great and easy so your best bet is to try that first....
I am using prozgui as well but I am not quite happy for the following reason:
I am at the uni accomodation right now and I am using a wireless connection which is very unstable.
I noticed that when i download mp3s and i get disconnected, mp3s are not downloaded correctly. Sometimes I can hear "scratches" when i playback the mp3.
It does not happen when for example I download the same file using just the firefox browser...
I currently use the firefox plugin DownthemAll! and it works perfectly, it accelerates the download by splitting the file in 4 parts or more. A very well done program, excellent. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201
