Trouble installing drivers for smc7007usb adsl modem in sarge

Hello!

I have an smc 7007 adsl usb modem provided to me by my adsl provider. I was trying to install the drivers for it in sarge. I got the drivers from www.bewan.com, as the chipset in the modem is a bewan one. I compiled the module and copied in into /lib/modules/$(`uname -r')/kernel/net. The name of the module is unicorn_usb_atm.ko. When I try to do a modprobe unicorn_usb_atm, I get an error saying Invalid module format. I am using the default 2.6.8-1-386 kernel provided in my set of sarge. What seems to be the problem?

Question

Hi Kaustubh,

I have the same issue. Just started to look for it. If you have resolved the issue please let me know.

Did you try "Conexant USB ADSL Modem in Linux" from source forge.

cheers,
Vadi

I got this problem sorted out. Compiled the module against the correct kernel headers. Still I cannot connect. In WinXP, there is a connection which dials to the number 0,32,3. I am still trying to get PPPD to do the same, but with no success. Maybe I'll ask my ISP to replace my modem, either with a compatible modem or a router.
