My pedigree

I have been a member for a while but donŽt like to talk about myself or display my ignorance!

IŽll make a brief exception and give a few facts.

I am a lawyer by training but have been making a living as a farmer for the past 30 years. What I know about computers I picked up by the way.

Thanks to a free Ubuntu cd I was introduced to Linux and have never looked back. This was Ubuntu 8.something. I now run a dual boot system as I need Windows to run a database program (which is as middle-aged as I am). From time to time I try to learn Python to write something to replace it with but until then I cannot switch completely.

In the nature of things my technical computer background is rather limited and I (regretfully) get more out of the Linux community than I put back.

Thank you to all the generous people who share their knowledge and time to make the various distros (particularly Ubuntu) work. The open source community seems to defy the cut-throat world we live in. I find it rather incredible that it does seem to work. Marx would have been proud of it (just joking!).

'Gedagtes' is Afrikaans for 'thoughts'.
