According to
this review, that machine has one GB RAM. Unless you've installed more, you might want to look at distros using one of the lighter-weight desktops, such as Lubuntu, which uses the LXDE desktop.
Another option would be to install whatever distro you want, then install and use
LXDE for a desktop. Different desktops/window managers can coexist quite happily on the same hard drive. I set up a laptop with one GB RAM with Mint for my son, then set up LXDE for him to use on a day-to-day basis.
Also, yooy's advice to try out different distros is excellent--you can do that to decide which one you are most comfortable with.
