Linksys WUSB54G ndiswrapper cannot initialise device

this is a problem with a linksys usb wireless adaptor (g). im using ndiswrapper to try to make it work.

ndiswrapper says driver loaded, hardware present (ive tried divers 1.0.6 and 1.0.8).

but after a modprobe, a dmesg dump says error -22 when device probe, Windows driver could not initialise the device or something. i get no mac address appearing for the deviceor anytthingbuti does say linksys driver registered

(plz dont flame me for not giving you a dump of the message, i have to go back into windows for net access!! dual boot system)

when i make(d) ndiswrapper it did tell me it loked like i have 4k kernel stacks. i dont think thats the case im using the latest kernel suse 9.1 something.111.19 and it uses the right stacks by default. how would i check anyway?

im using the latest version of ndiswrapper too.

apparently with that error it may be a case of not having irqs left accroding to ndiswrapper faq, but in bios i reserved one i think, and it stil doesnt work

OK, you probably need to visit the ndiswrapper card list and get the drivers they suggest. There is also a note that it may not work with 2.4 series kernels. You can use uname -a to see what version kernel you are running.

ive tried the drivers they suggest, including my own, and im using the latest kernel, 2.6.5.7 something or other

any other suggestions?

Well, there are a set of SUSE specific installation instructions, but I think you do need to figure out how to post the real error message. I think we are going to need that to get much further.

My experience is that ndiswrapper either works right out of the gate or it takes a fair amount of effort to get it running and guessing at errors only prolongs the pain.

It won't work with 2.4 kernels. Upgrade to a recent 2.6 kernel for it to work. Also, use the driver they recommend.

He already stated that he uses 2.6 and used the drivers they recommened. Please read the post before replying! Anyways its Suse, compiling anything on SuSE is a total pain, worse than trying to play a game on Fedora! I suggest you try deleting the ndiswrapper.ko file. I don't know where it is in 9.1 because in all their mighty wisdom they decided for 1 version to move the kernal and source to a different directory than where it should be. Which cause compiling errors all the time, thats why I got 9.2 the day it came out because of problems like these. As for the stack size, I believe it is right and its more of a problem with the compiler not finding all of the kernel source files i'm guessing, either way try to find a suse rpm for 9.1 they exist, if its not already on your SuSE 9.1 disks. Will fix all your compile headaches guarenteed.

hmm thanks kohl. ill try erasing the module and trying again. i did install the kernel using rpms though, and installing things/ making seems to go ok.
