Wow! Sweet! This is just what I needed! Hope it works though...
Hey I extracted everything to file:/root/alsa-driver-1.0.6rc2 and uhh... what to do with it?
I did tested his (James-alsa developer for audigyls) cvs driver some one month or so ago. The sound output works but the line-in didn't work. And the mixer was still very rough around the edge. Hope he notice those stuff and do what is necessary. Will test it once 1.0.6 is official. I only have the production machine to work with, so can't mess it up to often.

I just bought an Audigy LS because my motherboard has an integrated soundcard which seems to be a hassle to setup to work with Slack 9.1.
However, how do I disable the integrated soundcard, as the kernel does not recognize the Audigy LS in PCI ? I tried to see in the bios but I could not see how to disable the soundcard ?
BIOS is probably the way you are going to disable your onboard soundcard.
If such option is not there (I doubt it), then maybe you can check your motherboard manual to see if any jumper setting is available for disabling it.
I'm new to Linux, I love music, and I really want to try the various sequencers and such included with SuSE 9.1, and I have a Dell SB Live. Do I understand correctly that I will be able to use this soundcard in Linux?
So, yes, with the new ALSA 1.0.6 upgrade, you will be able to use your SB Live! soundcard whether it is EMU10k1X or EMU10k1.
However, I think you may need to test further to see if MIDI support is working or not.
This, I have no idea, since EMU10k1X support is a very recent event (less than 3 months I am afraid).
Distribution: Gentoo 2004.2: Who needs exmmpkg when you have emerge?

I think you can work MIDI if you follow a mini-howto found in the postings in the regular emu10k1 driver page in the soundcard matrix (lots of ins ). I think 1.0.5 has Dell SB Live support, since I'm using a module called emu-10k1x for my regular SB Live, and I've heard someone got their's working with 1.0.5.
Probably. I heard ALSA 1.0.5a supported Dell model already for some users, the driver developer has been seeking feedback for this new snd-emu10k1x module:
So, if you have any more information on how this new driver works for you, please add it to the Wiki page so that more developers / users can receive feedback on it:
Allright, well I am one of the unfortunate many with the Dell SB Live sound card. I just installed Alsa 1.0.6a.
Keep in mind I am using SuSE 9.1. When i go into my sound card options in Yast, it shows Emu10k1x next to my sound card. But my sound is still not working. As you can see:
How do I go about switching to the emu10k1x module? And is that all I need to do to get it working? I assumed the module was already set seeing as the x vers. driver is the one that shows up next to my sound card. But evidentally not.
