Besides having trouble getting Radeon drivers working properly in general under any distribution, I am now using Fedora Core test 1 and have found with this distribution I can't even compile the drivers.
When I run: ./check.sh I am told I have XFree86 v4.3 (this is good)
So I run the: rpm -ivh fglrx4.3.<etc etc>.rpm --force
The rpm is installed and the automatic compile test begins. I get a strange message indicating that I need at least XFree86 4.1, a kernel at least 2.4.20, and that my...
When I try to run ./make.sh in the build directory, I get the same message.
Fedora Core 2 test 1 comes standard with 2.6.1-1.61. Is there anyone who has this version of fedora and a radeon 9600xt? Or anyone might be able to clue me in a little here what is causing the problem? GCC maybe?
Any help would be very appreciated.

XFree86 drm includes at
/lib/modules/2.6.1-1.65/build/include/../drivers/char/drm do not fit
this driver.
This driver is designed to only work wuth X4.1.0 or higher.
You can match this by getting Linux kernel 2.4.8 or higher.
Distribution: FreeBSD 4.9/5.1, NetBSD 1.5, RedHat 6.0/7.3/9&ES2.1/3, Fedora Core 1 and Solaris 2.6/9

The thing is that Fedora Test 1 and up do not use the regular XFree86 as used in earlier realeses, it comes with XOrg.
So when the ATI driver scans for XFree86, it fails simply because XFree86 does not exist in Fedora Test 1.
So, the only solution, I think, is to wait for ATI to release a driver compitable with XOrg
Yep I'm waiting for that, but I have also moved to Mandrake. Fedora was unable to compile anything significant (maybe my own small programs but that is it).
Fedora seems to have a dodgy GCC, libraries, or maybe the custom kernel. Either way, I got too tired and migrated to Mandrake. Stuff compiles there.
