how to get apache and tomcat work together

hi,

I want to get my apache2 and tomcat5 work together in my mandrake10 linux. I find some information from web, I should download a connector named md_jk2 or something, but I can not find one for mandrake10. And after download the connector, what should I do?

mod_jk is an apache module, check apache's website.

Once Apache is running with mod_jk (and configured) you can reference pages / objects in tomcat (like mypage.jsp or a servlet 'disptable') as if they were a part of the apache web server.

i.e.
http://my.web.site/jsp/disp_page.jsp

will get passed through Apache to tomcat and returned to the web browser.

here's the best download info I've found for mod_jk. If you can't find an RPM specifically for Mandrake your options will be to take an rpm (say for Fedora), tear it apart with rpm2cpio and copy the files manually. But you're best bet will be to compile and install from source.

Note differences from mod_jk and mod_jk2.

Scroll down the page to the section that says "Tomcat Web Server Connectors" and click on the link that says "JK 2 Binary Releases" then you have some choices. You can click on the link that says "linux" but it only has three versions there:
Fedora-Core-1-i386.tar.gz,
Suse-9.0-i386.tar.gz,
Suse-SLES-8.0-ppc.tar.gz.

What I did was after clicking on the link that says "JK 2 Binary Releases" you will end up looking at a directory listing on a mirror site, don't click on any of the distribution directories. but click on the "Parent Directory" link and it will take you to a listing with the generic versions called
jakarta-tomcat-connectors-jk2-src-current.tar.gz (for unix-like systems)
and
jakarta-tomcat-connectors-jk2-src-current.zip (for windows).

I found some out-dated directions for the install of it here: http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue95/millson.html but this is for redhat 9.

actaully what is the main important for Tomcat and Apache intergration? Why We are not only use Tomcat Web capacbility? Anyone can tell me the reason?

I do it because apache creates nice graphic traffic report

Apache is better for serving static pages (faster, more reliable...) while tomcat allows dynamic content.
