Flash wont work in Mozilla 1.6 and Others

Hello,

I just moved from Redhat 9 to Mandrake 9.2 and I am having a few problems.
Ill only ask one here.

I downloaded the flash player from macromedia. I installed it just like I did on my old Redhat system. But it wont work.

After the installer is finnished the following files were in the mozilla plugins folder.

/usr/local/mozilla/plugins
flashplayer.xpt
libflashplayer.so
libnullplugin.so

When I go to the Help > About Plugins menu it lists nothing.

What do I need to do to get flash installed.

I also specified for flash to be installed for Forebire 0.7 and Netscape 7.1. None of these work.

I installed it as root but nothing.

Thanks in Advance.

You need to install the flash plugin in the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.6/plugins folder. That's where mine went by default, anyway. Works fine

Edit: For the sake of clearing up confusion on my part...

When I say install the plugins to the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.6/plugins folder, you're going to specify it like this:

/usr/lib/mozilla-1.6

You will not need to tack on the /plugins folder. The flash installer knows where to put it. The reason why I'm clearing this up is; I've seen a lot of people get confused on this minor detail. Pardon me, folks.

/usr/local/mozilla is the default.

you gotta make it point to where you have mozilla installed.

example, mine is /home/jace/Desktop/Programs/Mozilla/plugins

(where the file you extracted mozilla to is)

Ninja Cow:
In the /usr/lib folder it only has mozilla-1.4, the default instalation that came with Mandrake.

questionasker:
I installed mozilla into /usr/local/mozilla. I added a launcher in my taskbar that pointed to /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla.

I installed it in the default location puropsely.

When I run the flashplayer installer I specify that directory.

I have installed the flash player successfully in Redhat, but not in Mandrake.

When I load the installer script it says that it has to install 2 fonts.

Then it asks you to specify your directory. If you specify a directory that does not exist then it gives you an error. If you specify a directory that does not have a browser in it it says "Please enter a valid installation path"

I specify the correct directory.

It says Macromedia Flash Player 6 will ....
then it lists the browser installation directory then it asks, Proceed with .. (y/n/q)

Then it says Perform another installation. I then proceed with FireBird and Netscape.

I have successfully got this working using this exact same method with my RedHat box.

So I have tried enverything you guys have said.

If you can think of anything else please let me know.

I think mandrake is just a little screwy. I am having a few other problems that I had no problem with in Redhat. Others include printing and samba.

I needed GNU libstdc++ installed.

The link to the article at mozdev can be found here: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/phoenixlin.html

The link to the thread in the other forum is here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=352163#352163

Well, the mozilla installer said nothing about that package. I'm just glad it works.

Hopefully others will find this post if they find them selves in the same position.

I'm having the same problem, and I've check about every FAQ or troubleshooting page I can find.

On my box, I have

Code:
[root@enigma install_flash_player_6_linux]# rpm -qa | grep libstdc++
libstdc++5-3.3.1-2mdk
So, it looks like I have the correct files installed, and the installation works just fine, and flash even works great in Opera, just not in firebird (or firefox as its now known).
