Yeah, unfortunately, Broadcom is being very stubborn. I just sent another email to Linksys hoping they will be able to put pressure on Broadcom. I would recommend everyone who owns or would like to own one of these cards do the same. And I'm not talking about spamming them with hate mail, just a lot of email from concerned customers.
Hi, i am also looking for drivers for Linksys WMP54G wireless adapters, i've just got my wireless network working at Home but still need to run cables for linux (Red Hat 8) machines.
I have 3 PC's, each of them have 2 hard disk so i have Red Hat 9 and Windows XP installed on each machine, i can go wireless when all the machines are using Windows but Linux is not "seeing" the wireless cards so i am still using "regular" network adapters too.
Post here if you have any news about this, i alread signed the petition somebody posted in this thread.
Replying to the question of why wireless, well, i work at home, i do web development for a living and honestly would be great to do some parts of my job at my room sitting on a couch or bed after being almost all day on a chair and being free to move to any room on the house.
My car is waiting for its dose of wireless.. I might be forced to run Windows on it, and that would about kill me.. The software that I am helping to write (We have a *small* team working on it) will be cross platform, but Linux is always a choice over Windows!
I also bought this this morning, I thought if the WPC11 worked, that this would... but only know I find out they have different chipsets.
re: petition
when will this be put forward to broadcom/etc ? or has it already?
/edit
blimeh! I got an email back from linksys support within a few minutes...
Dear Simon,
Warm Greetings! Thank you again for contacting Linksys Customer Support.
Yes, we currently do not have a linux driver for WPC54G. What we currently have are drivers for windows.
Linksys is committed on how to better improve our product. I shall forward your request to the appropriate department. They will look into this. Hopefully, a linux driver will be forthcoming soon.
If you have further questions, please contact us at (800) 326-7114 or send us an email at support@linksys.com so that we may further assist you. Please use this phone number given as reference for future support calls.
Sincerely,
Anna Reyes
Hopefully? does that mean they are pushing for it?
I have been looking into the Linksys 54G wireless myself. I have not purchased one yet. But I did run into this wrapper software which is supposed to allow the windoze driver to work under linux.
I have the Linksys WPC54G pcmcia network card and I am able to use it with a third party ($14.95) program from Linuxant which is able to use the windows driver files.
I was just over at the Linksys website, and the offer source code for some of their products to run with Linux. I will attempt to try to modify one of the source code packages to work with my Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI card. I will post if I have any success. Anyone else wishing to check it out can do so at the following address:
UGH, I just bought a WMP54G yesterday and tried to install it (no luck of course). I thought it would be easy because my wife got her Netgear PCMCIA card working with Redhat no problem. I'm on SuSE 9 and didnt have near as much luck.
riskadh, have you had any luck modifying a different source package to work with this card?
can you help me out a bit with this one.. I have the same pci card.. a mini how-to would be great.. im a newbie in linux but with a lot of disposition to learn..
