No sound in external apps.

I have KDE 3.3.2, with alsa, and arts enable. I can hear mp3 files, view videos trough totem, hear even the system sounds, my problem came when i want to hear and external application, for example I want to view with konqueror or mozilla an swf file. That swf file had sound obviously but I can't hear it, what could be the problem? I only can hear things that belongs to the system (system sounds, music files trough system apps, etc) but I can,t hear external apps sounds.

i think those browsers don't come with mul.med. support.
you could try " plugger " ( find it with google ) or " mplayer" with the plugin.

I wish I could say that. But I know these browser does bring you the opportunity to hear sound, for example Before when I did a fresh install of slack 9.1 I did had sound in konqueror with kde 3.1.x Even in kde 3.2.x I did could hear soundfiles like swf, rpm, etc. Inside konqueror without migrating to some system apps. So I know that sound works too with browser in Linux, but I don,t know how cause before I did have, but nothing now.

Did you try chmod 666 /dev/dsp* ? I'm not using linux right now so i dont know the direct path to the sound devices such as mixer and devices in /dev/snd. But see what you can make of that.

make sure that you have your Esound daemon turned on. many browser plugin attempts to connect to ESD server to play sound. If it is turned on, make sure that it is not muted.
