Configuration Steps Mandrake Netgear WG511

Trying to get my new card working on my Mandrake 10 Laptop.

I have installed the Wireless Tools and have attempted to configure the card through mandrake control center as of yet I have had no luck.

I think andrake is using the incorrect driver, I believe I should be using the Prism54 driver.

I have googled for a few hours but seem to have hit a wall, basically I am after I kind of list of things to do to get the card running. I someone could point me to a thread or site with the steps that would be great.

By the way I am not scared of the command line.

Have you tried ndiswrapper cause your card is on the supported list
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/List

And the homepage: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/

Mandrake 10.1, Mandrake 10, NetGear WG511

First, I will address using Mandrake10, and after, I will address the problems of using the NetGear WG511 with Mandrake 10.1

The best posting for can be found in the Prism54.org Forum by Bosun.

In LinuxQuestions.org, please see the posting at:
Click here to see the posting at LinuxQuestions.org for resolution configuration issues of the WG511 with Mandrake 10.

If you are using Mandrake 10.1, you will have an easier time of configuring the card, but a harder time getting pcmcia to work.

I went to the Mandrake Control Center->System->Services->pcmcia and it was stopped. I could not get it started. I found the two articles specifically addressing this bug. Apparently several Mandrake users are having this problem and are reporting these issues to LinuxQuestions.org.

A detailed report of the bug can be found by clicking here, which will take you to qa.mandrakesoft.com

To get the card working in Mandrake 10.1, I entered

# modprobe yenta_socket
# modprobe prism54

I was able to see the that the card was recognized using

# ifconfig

The lights on the card did not activate until I entered

# ifcfg eth2

eth0 = wired connection, eth1 = Pro/Wireless 2100 (Centrino), eth2 =
NetGear WG511

I tried most of the commands at qa.mandrakesoft.com. This posting does not include all my attempts. I read the list at the qa.mandrakesoft.com, and kept trying different options until the lights were activated on the card.

Walt
