old distro CDs

i have a host of old CDs that i'll probably never use again, things like mandrake 9/9.1, suse 8.2, 3 discs of redhat 9, college linux, an older version or two of knoppix, etc. what can i do with these besides having them just taking up space on my shelf? are there any school programs or anything that take old linux cds as a donation? i'd hate to give them such old versions, but hey, they still work of course. i'd hate to just throw them away. besides the pollution/landfill issues, it just seems wrong somehow.

I hear they can be used underneath your drinks to keep your table dry.

"what can i do with these besides having them just taking up space on my shelf?"

A guy once posted a question here saying he had salvaged an old computer and he couldn't find a Linux installer that would run on the old machine. All of the current installers were too big. So I mailed him SuSE 6.4 complete with manuals and the old CLI YaST installer worked OK. The only problem that he ran into was that his father was deeply suspicious of strangers on the Internet who give away something for free.

maybe they're worth keeping then, after all.

strangely enough, that was always one of my thoughts about why more people don't use linux: because it's free. i think if people aren't paying money for something, they often feel that it's not really worth anything. too bad -- once longhorn comes out, they're going to get soaked (again).

So, you're going to keep them? I could sure use the knoppix CD right about now. I am just a newbie starting out and wouldn't mind trying at least knoppix and any of the others would be fine too.

Well, let me know if you are still willing to give at least the knoppix cd up. I would be very happy to recieve it.

Find someone with a spare computer and ask them if they'd like to try something new. Hopefully after trying out an old version of Linux on their old computer, they might think about using Linux on their new computer too!

When I burn a CD and it does not work, I either throw it away.. or I use it to help decorate my room.. I would keep them and Microwave them, but my mom would kill me :P
