I installed and updated my system with swaret and now the fluxbox choice is gone from the windowmanager chooser menu. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling windowmanagers that I don't use. I even unistalled blackbox thinking that something I installed was causing a conflict. I don't know what to do next.
Check /etc/X11/dm/Sessions for the list that xdm, kdm and gdm will read from; you can also look in /usr/X11/gdm/Sessions if you use gdm and $KDE_DIR$/share/apps/kdm/Sessions if you use kdm for some possible extras that got misplaced.
When I need to add a DE/WM that didn't get added to my GDM list, I usually open one of the *.desktop files found in /etc/X11/dm/Sessions with a text editor (open the text editor as root, then open the file from the text editor, as you can't use "Open With" on these files), edit it to reflect the other DE/WM, then save it as "new_de.desktop".
I think that I've fixed it for good. I had previously installed dropline which changed my XF86Config files to the xorg files, so gdm, kdm were empty and useless. So I started poking around /etc/X11 at the other dm's and in xdm. I found a file called chooser, but I couldn't find an app to open it with. It was in /etc/X11/xsm that I found my solution.. sort of. there's a file called system.xsm where it said twm, I changed it to fluxbox, and deleted the two lines below it. I logged out of root and logged in as my regular user and selected default window manager and sure enough, there was fluxbox. I have the goofy 4 button box from twm, but everything else is fluxbox.
Thanks also to motub who sent me in the right direction.
