Can't boot Linux Mint Debian Edition with AMD RadeonHD 7970

I am running Linux Mint Debian Edition and I ran "# sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dri:i386" and "# sudo apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-video-ati" to try and install the drivers for my GPU. After doing that I ran the command "sudo apt-get update" and restarted my PC. Now my PC goes to the grub menu where I select LMDE because I am dual booting it with Win7 and I get stuck on a black screen with nothing except the loading cursor (when the cursor has like a spinning wheel type thing)What should I do?

I am attempting to solve this problem in this thread:

This is my fault (sorry OP!), assistance would be gratefully received.
