Ubuntu 7.04 & 7.10 64 bit on Lenovo Thinkpad r61

Hi,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu onto my new R61, and the installation itself went well. When I reboot for the first time, I get the grub screen, grub disappears and the screen goes black. What should I do to proceed? Here are the stats:

Does your computer do or display anything after the screen goes black, or does it just 'hang'?

When you're starting up your computer, watch carefully when the grub boot loader starts - are ANY messages displayed?

Then the LCD goes off.

looks like you might have a RAM problem. Run memtest? (I also suggest using 32-bit if you have less than 4 gb of ram...)

The issue is that the these distros don't have the required packages available at install time. The work around is to add vga=792 to the kernel line at the GRUB boot screen. To access the screen you hit ESC when you see the GRUB loading message, and use the GRUB commands to edit that line and boot into VGA 800x1024 mode.
