Internal SD Card Reader Notebook

Hi there,

I always carry an USB card reader for my sd cards but sometimes I forget it home (like today), giving me a lot of headache. But I do have on my Compaq/HP nc6000 laptop an internal sd card reader.

I'm currently using Suse 10.2 and I ask if someone know how to get it to work. Though I've been using Suse for a while now, I consider myself a newbie because almost every time I face a different problem I can't find a solution by my own. So, please treat me as a newbie! =D

Thank u all!

Try this from root konsol

# lspci

which gave me a few lines of data, these are the interesting lines

02:06.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCIxx21/x515 Cardbus Controller
02:06.3 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
02:06.4 Generic system peripheral [Class 0805]: Texas Instruments PCI6411/6421/6611/6621/7411/7421/7611/7621 Secure Digital Controller
02:06.5 Communication controller: Texas Instruments PCI6411/6421/6611/6621/7411/7421/7611/7621 Smart Card Controller

I then ran this command.

# setpci -s 02:06 4c.b=02

Insert the card and it was auto detected.
the only thing is that you have to run this at every start up untill someone explains how to add it to the startup sequence.

Credit to mick80234 for this also see this link

I am now using 10.2 with no problems on HP Compaq nc6120

funny thing. I was using 9.2 pro on a jewel laptop with internal SD reader. I didn't get my USB ports, wireless or ethernet modem to work but if I insert a SD card it just pops up in the devices tab and works like a dream I'm downing openSUSE 10.2 now to see if that works. good luck

I think that command was from the original post using his pci addresses. You need to use your own from your lspci printout. See man setpci for detailed info.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the 4c.b=02 means? and how you worked out what values to use?

I think that I have a similar problem getting a PCI Bridge to take action when a PCMCIA card is inserted.

Thanks,

J
