Bellsouth ADSL with Westell modem on Redhat LINUX9
I just installed redhat linux9 and tried to connect internet. I have fastaccess bellsouth adsl service and running Westell Wirespeed modem with both usb and ethernet ports. I looked all over the internet to figure out how to connect but when I realize that Bellsouth stopped supporting Linux users, couldn't even ask for a software. I know some of you guys out there knows how to do this... and I'm hoping that there is a website out there to instruct me on how to connect internet on Linux step by step. Looks like Linux detected my nic card and the light is lit on the modem but can't seem to get it working. I tried to use rp-pppoe software but after installing rpm files... I'm just lost... please if anyone knows how to please help me
Well, I gave your problem 20 mintues of my time, which is a lot. and Read a couple howto's and other forums and.. well
Everyone who I found having a problem with ASDL was using Redhat linux and not being able to get it to start pppoe.
Lol..
Some said they got it working after browsing through a few sites in germany, but the major consensus was just to drop redhat for Suse or Mandrake, as those have a handy litltle box you check for asdl. done, end of story setup
Good luck.
I'm using my phone co's adsl service also, and also using Westell Wirespeed w/RH9 you don't need any software to run it. just go to Main Menu-> System Tools-> Network Device Control, if that eht0 is what you have set up delete it. Click add under service pick xdsl and give it all you logon info and anything else you have after that click activate and run a browser.
I did use this guy step: "I'm using my phone co's adsl service also, and also using Westell Wirespeed w/RH9 you don't need any software to run it. just go to Main Menu-> System Tools-> Network Device Control, if that eht0 is what you have set up delete it. Click add under service pick xdsl and give it all you logon info and anything else you have after that click activate and run a browser."
But then it did not work.
Frustation!
Then I went to Main Menu -> System Settings -> Security Level and changed the firewall config.
set:
Security level = Medium
