Mandriva 2008 release date?

Hi,
I understand today is the release date for Mandriva 2008, however it is not there for download, but does say coming soon. So I'm assuming it has been delayed a little bit.

Does anyone know when it will be released for downloading?

Thanks.

Patience young padawan Seriously, there have been a few internal issues at Mandriva (servers going down), I think that has now been resolved and we can expect 2008 very soon (sorry I can't give you an exact date). But while you wait, perhaps you would like to further 'wet your appetite' by reading a nice article on what to expect. : http://artipc10.vub.ac.be/serendipit...va-2008.0.html

Final release will most likely be next week, if there's no further delays. We are still squishing the last release critical bugs at present. Definitely not November.

Adam Will - Glad to hear it's not November... and I hope it all goes smoothly.

What is the real advantage of buying a version of Mandiva over the free one? I've been using Linux and mostly Mandrake/mandriva for quite a while, and feel that it would be nice to contribute in some way to the cause... I'm not up to any coding so thought I paid verion would help a little. So wondering what to really expect?

Thanks.

But I knew it was due before the end of October.

Here it is the news you've been waiting for:

Quote:
For those of you who are impatient to get started with Mandriva Linux 2008, good news: the Free and Powerpack ISOs are finalized and are being made available to the early seeders program right now. We need a few days for the early seeders to get downloaded and set up to seed, so the official public release will happen at the start of next week. Watch this space! The One ISOs are taking a little longer to complete, but will be available for the official release at the same time as the others. 07-10-07

I've been running 2008 RC2 on a very up-to-date laptop for a couple of weeks and I love it. I wish I'd signed up for early seeders now. (I wish I'd even known about it!)

It's stable, the kernel is much more recent than Spring, lots of nice stuff for newer wireless LAN, alsa support for newer chipsets etc. I do think Mandriva is a damn fine distribution.

The more I hear about Mdv 2008, the more impatient I become. And the delay (from Sep 29) doesn't make things easier for me! Long live Mandriva!

for those of you who are like me..... you'll find the 2008.0 free there just make sure you seed it back.... I'm already downloading it... remember enable DHT in you're bittorent client cauz'e there is NO CONNECTION to the tracker and you'll have to wait a couple of minutes untill the download starts. I'm downloading the x86-64 version...
Have fun!

I did see they were in the process of setting up mirrors, maybe they just haven't got round to it yet.
