Can't get games to run full screen help!

I recently wiped FC1 out of my girlfriends laptop and replaced it with MDK 9.2, here the prob can't get games to run in full screen. When set to full screen everything else goes away and the games centers itself with a black border all around but does not use the whole screen res it set at 1024x768 as it was with FC1 and games worked fine, MDK has both graphics card and moniter set the same as FC1, what am I missing her main game is frozen bubble which the only screen option is full screen or not. I have MDK 9.2 in my box and am pretty used to it so I don't THINK i'm missing anything but obviously am...Help!

Thanx
