How does one contact the moderators or root for that matter.

I cannot find a PM system, am I missing something?

Have you tried clicking the curser over a poster's name?
I checked your status and there is no option to send you a PM, so have you disabled PMs in your profile (My LQ)?

I can find nothing in the profile setting regarding Private Messages.

I did, however, find someting on visitor messaging so I turned that on.
To me, visitor messaging is where a visiting, non-member can send a message, something that is turned off on other Fora I am a member of.

I have just noticed Vivitor messages seem to be public.

This board's format is a little different than most. Most open source software fora use phpBB. Navigating this board can take a little getting used to.

I had noticed that, is there a PM system or are we limited to the public visitor system?

I just remembered. PMs do not become available, until one has made a certain number of posts. I believe it is a hundred.

In that case I shall have to make a bunch of trivial posts to get my score up.

100 seems a lot. many Fora have a limit of say 10 or so and I have seen one as high as 25 but 100 is unprecedented.

You need 150 posts. Have a look at this previous thread about this subject: Private Messages

Is there a specific reason you want to PM a mod (or Jeremy)? If you have problems with something/someone in a specific thread you can always use the report button. But: This button is not meant to be used for one-on-one sessions concerning the topic of the thread, its used for bad behaviour/breaking LQ rules/etc.

BTW: Making a bunch of trivial posts just to be able to PM isn't in the spirit of posting here at LQ and will probably be frowned upon.

150 posts before PM authority is granted is draconian.

The more I use this Forum the more I dislike it.

The main purpose of LQ is to share information, which can be searched by others that have problems. The PM functionality is a one-on-one mechanism that would make sharing a lot harder (if not impossible).

The PM system at LQ is also not obligatory. Users can decide for themselves if they want to activate or de-activate the PM functionality, so even if you have 150+ posts you might not be able to PM someone.

You have avoided my question about why you want/need the PM functionality so badly, but if you want one-on-one help then LQ might not be the place for you.

I avoided your question because it is none of your business why I want to use it.

I will happily explain to a moderator or root should they ask in anon-public way.

It appears that the threshold may be 1000+

If you want to contact a moderator you can send an email, all moderators have the option to contact them per email enabled. Just click on the moderator's name on one of his/her posts and select the "Send email to name" option. Alternatively, visit the moderators profile page, switch to the "Contact Info" tab and use the "Send a message via email to name" link.

Always nice to see someone appreciate the help they get.

You might want to actually read the links I provided. If you did you would know that the amount of posts needed is 150 and not 1000.
