• receiving their replies

We managed to raise about ZAR 1 000 000 (about 160000 USD)

All with Linux and Perl ...

first of all... installed slackware 10.2 on the laptop get "ALL" the hardware to worrkk which was reallly a painn in the *ss... upgraded to GCC 4.0.1 ... learned C++ i think thats enoughh for a person whos been using linux for less than 6 monthss thx to LQ !

H AH A yea i was thinking the same thing.

MythTV was really cool, but i found out that I don't watch that much tv, but very easy to produce a PVR.

I run a webserver, and just all the Open source Web-Scripts are sweet, kind of like a kid in a candy shop.

Learning how to set up an IDE currently, want to learn some programming, Eclipse is nice.

Also working on an Email Server. With virus and spam filtering.

Umm coolest? So probably programming perl to do some cool editing of industry software outputs, some other network things and a few helpful analysis scripts for science. Other than that looking at a possible in Nerual Networks useing "R". Umm anything cool though?

Use my linux laptop at my private school full of rich, computer illeterate bastards who waste a shitload of money on macs and do not understand that the only thing it's really good for is graphics. I duel boot windows on my laptop, I use windows for games because im too cheep to use whinex and windows was already installed on my laptop. Windows still shines in some gaming. Macs are for graphics. Mac is more evil than windows. If you don't believe, go to some rich kids, try and start a conversation about computers and survive hearing "Greater minds use Mac" or "I think different."

having 2 days experience, switching runlevel and installing nVidia drivers without a reboot, good thing i took the plunge away from microsoft

recompiled the kernel and it WORKED! Added a new disk and formatted it. Format = mke2fs I didn't know that until recently. I had not had to format other than original builds until now.
Written shell scripts to keep an eye on system performance. Very simple but does the job.

setting up a webcam for surveilance using a headless debian box with v4l and vlc... the project isn't complete yet, but it's coming along pretty well.

Editing and putting together my band's CD, using such goodies as Audacity. It's a work in progress.
