display.py and targetregistry.py error solution

The instructions above are great if you follow them to the letter. However, if you want the latest version of gDesklets (.32) as of this writing and .33 is suppor to come out this weekend for those that want to know..

Use
pyorbit-2.0.1
pygtk-2.4.1
gnome-python-2.6.1 or later.... Please note that you need the gnome.ui module and others..

That should get everything up speed enough to run the current version. For the record.. Once you know what versions to build or install everything works fine.

no module named gnome.ui

There are certain RPM packages that come with out that module.. I run gDesklets fine and the best way to do it is to build from source. Follow the directions at the beginning of this thread, but use the version numbers in my prior post. Make sure that after you run ./configure that it is going to build the gnome.ui module. IOW.. Build it yourself with the proper versions and make sure all modules where needed are included.

Talking

i wasn't using RPMs as i've recently moved from RH9 to slackware and hope never to work with RPMs again

i have found a solution, don't know if this is any good to anyone else but here goes....

i removed (except for XML-parser) what i have already installed from the original list of packages required, going into each source directory and using 'make uninstall'.

i downloaded and installed....

pygtk-2.4.0.tar.gz
pyorbit-2.0.1.tar.gz
swig-1.3.24.tar.gz
gnome-python-2.6.2.tar.gz
gDesklets-0.33.1

i did.....

./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install

......as root to install all the packages. all is working fine now, and my 'tester app' is on my desktop telling me how many days till next christmas.

good luck.
