wireless network doesn't come up automatically on Suse 9.2

I recently converted from FC3 to Suse 9.2 and I am using ndiswrapper for my wireless card. Under FC3, I was able to get my wireless card installed and running and it came up automatically upon boot. Since I have gone to Suse, i have to bring up wlan0 manually no matter what I select under Yast (i.e. activate device at boot, when hotplugged, etc... nothing works). Anyone have this problem and if so what can you suggest to fix it?

Have a look in /etc/sysconfig/network where you'll find the various network config files. ifcfg.template is a well documented example file that you use to check the file for your wireless device. I found with ndiswrapper that YaST wasn't 100% in setting the config files, so I edited my wireless card file to do exactly what I wanted it to. You can copy config lines from any of the config files in the directory into your card file and then you can be sure that it will do exactly what you want.

If you have more than one card using DHCP that could also be an issue as whichever one starts first will set default routes etc.

In SuSE 9.2 the default startup is now for PCMCIA and hotplug before network so if configured correctly the card should come up when switched on or indeed when inserting if the machine's already on.
