What programs would you like to see ported to Linux?

This thread is for letting vendors know that there is interest in porting one of their programs to Linux. Let us know what programs you would like to see ported and why. Details such as how much you would be willing to pay may be helpful as well. If there is enough interest for certain programs I will even contact the vendor myself.

I'll start off I suppose. When I'm lazy, I have to admit, I do like using Dreamweaver to create web pages. So that is one application I wouldn't mind being ported over.

And of course a second one would be Photoshop. I like the Gimp but I still can't wing myself from not using Photoshop for graphic editing/creation needs.

Cheers.

InDesign. TeX's great for books, but InDesign is much better suited for magazine/brochure layout.

Trickykid - Dreamweaver MX will work with Wine.

However, I agree that web design tools - Flash, Dreamweaver, etc should be ported. I don't see why developers can't produce either a Linux version seperately or include it in the main packaging.

I'd be willing to pay full price for them.

Jeremy - does the list include games or would that be a seperate thread?

Hello,

I now have broadband, but when I had dial up I would of liked to see earthlink namely port there software to linux. It worked flawlessly but to have the software and for it to tell me when I had email would of been great. Plus I could of put the cd in and let it set it up for me so I would have not had to worry about dns and such. I just think it would of been great. As far has how much to pay it would of payed for itself always a noob looking for an easy way to get internet working.

SPSS .. It's a program for statistical analysis... though many things can be done in OpenOffice.org I haven't found any specific statistics program for linux that's interoperable with SPSS (university requirement)

so yes, SPSS would be on the top of my list

I would think Games are software too..

And yes, I know Dreamweaver you can get working with Wine but were talking about actual ported over, without the use of Wine, hence the reason this thread has started. There are tons of applications that are only made for Windows but can work with the help of Wine, but that's not the point of this thread.

Regards.

It would help if you specified the actual name of the software you use and want ported or the name of the ISP that gives you this software....

Regards.

XavierP,

Good question. I'll create a separate thread for games in the Games forum. I think it would make the most sense to keep them separated.

Here is the games thread:

You snuck your response in while I was typing Drew While games are software I think since they have a sub-forum a separate thread makes sense.

Trickykid - apologies, I read it as if you were having to drop back into Windows> Maybe I'll keep my big mouth (keyboard?) shut in future. :P

Thanks Jeremy, I had visions of this thread becoming overrun and actual programs being buried by requests fo certain games.

I have seen some games sites offer a small program to allow their Windows games run on Linux. If this were possible for programs then we wouldn't need to buy 2 versions of the software.

I know of a few people who would switch if Macromedia would allow ports.
